Spooky Movie Time: 5 Movies To Watch This Halloween!

I know for many of us Halloween is a cherished holiday, it certainly is for me. The decorations, the adrenaline from fright, and the brisk fall air are enough to put it at number one. The thing that makes it the best though is the movies! Have you ever struggled with finding movies you’ve never seen? Or how about figuring out which ones you’d like to watch first? I’ve constructed a list of top Halloween movies rated by Holy Family students. Starting with my personal beloved Halloween movies, I’d put Halloween Town and Corpse Bride up there for sure.

1. Halloween Town (Courtesy of IMDb & Disney)

This movie may take some of us back to our childhood as it was very popular on Disney Channel.  The movie follows a young girl who discovers she is a Cromwell witch after her mother hid it from her for years. She must stop evil from taking over Halloween Town. If you like franchises and have lots of time on your hands, this movie has three others that are connected to it.

      2. Corpse Bride (photo courtesy of IMDb & Warner Bros).

Corpse Bride is a beautiful movie with many twists and turns throughout. It is a tearjerker for sure! Corpse Bride is a Tim Burton film set in a Victorian village. This story follows a boy named Victor. Trouble occurs when Victor accidentally marries a corpse and is taken to the underworld. He struggles to get back to the land of living with his real bride.

        3. Monster House (photo courtesy of IMDb & Sony Pictures).

Hanna Putro, Nursing class of 2025, says her favorite Halloween movie is Monster House. Monster House is a great film that many of us can mostly remember watching as children, Putro’s reason is “because it reminds me of my childhood.” If you want to watch Monster House, it is about a boy named DJ who stumbles upon his neighbor’s yard. He discovers the house is alive, which puts him and his friends in danger.

          4. Twitches  (photo courtesy of IMDb & Disney).

Twitches is a great film, especially for twin sisters. Ryan Gack, Secondary Education Math class of 2025, says, “I love the Disney comedy, Twitches. Since I’m a twin, my sister and I also loved to pretend the movie was about us, and still to this day, every October 1st it is the first Halloween movie we watch.” If anyone would like to check it out, the film is about twin witches who are separated at birth. When they reunite, they must save their homeland from being taken over by darkness. It is an excellent heartwarming film, especially for those of us heavily into the fantasy genre.

            5. Scream (photo courtesy of IMDb & Woods Entertainment).

Last, but certainly not least, this movie was brought up multiple times by Holy Family students. The movie Scream is favored by many people. It is a classic horror film bringing just the right amount of teen edge and terror. It is about a girl and her friends who are targeted by a killer who uses horror movies as a deadly game.  If you’re ever stuck finding films this year, I surely hope these scenes can make it to your list. Happy Halloween!

Cecily Sullivan class of 2025 is a Secondary English-Education major. Her passions include reading, writing, and music. She loves attending concerts, Halloween season, and visiting arboretums.
