EST. 1954 Holy Family University’s Student Newspaper

A Hello From Our Editor: Lily Marchiafava

Hello! Hello! Hello!

My name is Lily Marchiafava. I am a second year English student, and I am interning as the Executive Editor of Tri-Lite this fall. As the editor, I would like to spread the word: let people know not only about our newspaper but Folio as well—our literary magazine—along with Writers Bloc, a newfound club created to foster a literary community on Holy Family’s campus.

A main goal of this year is to connect these organizations in order to expand the knowledge and growth of the English community!

As an English major, it is hard to find things at school that appeal to me. There aren’t big events or gatherings like there are for other communities on campus. I know that the English department is quite small (especially in comparison to others), and so a lot of the time we are overlooked. But my hope is to bring more recognition to the English department, giving our students opportunities to share their work and participate in something they are passionate about.

I began working on Tri-Lite last year, after hearing about it from a few classmates of mine. I started to write articles in the Spring, and I knew I wanted to be more involved.

Through many interactions, and being on campus for nearly two years now – I have found that Tri-Lite isn’t very well known around here. Anyone I talk to about it is normally unaware that our school has a newspaper and certainly doesn’t know how to find it, even if they wanted to. I knew when I started writing for the paper last year, that I wanted to help it become something more!

Last Spring, I had a discussion with Professor Ficociello about a lack of strength and participation in the English community at Holy Family. Not to any fault of English majors themselves, just a lack of resources that led to a shortage of recognition within our department. This fact inspired the idea of Writers Bloc: a club with a purpose to create an environment where students can come together and celebrate literature and the written world. Writers Bloc would provide opportunities for students to share their work, engage in conversation about literary works and to have meaningful discussion in order to promote literacy and critical thinking skills, encouraging members to explore diverse perspectives and voices in literature. So even though it is a new club, Writers Bloc is a supportive space – open to anyone, not just English students. We will always welcome new members!

You can reach the officers of Writers Bloc anytime via email:

I have been working alongside Amanda Knipe, the Editor and Chief of Folio. She gives us insight on what Folio is all about : “Folio Literary Magazine is an on campus publication that publishes undergraduate students from all over the globe. Its goal is to provide a place for undergrads to share and publish their work free of charge. We have the pleasure of publishing many different voices from diverse backgrounds. You can follow our Instagram, @hfufolio, or submit via our website, https://www.foliomagazine.org/”

Tri-Lite, as in what you are reading this article on right now, is Holy Family’s newspaper. If you want to know more about Tri-Lite, or are interested in a position; you can find us on Instagram @hfutrilite or email us anytime: tri-lite@holyfamily.edu

Working closely with these other associations, my hope as your editor is to build a more vibrant community within our English Department and to give our English majors a voice!
