Habitat for Humanity is a non profit organization that works to provide affordable housing for those in need. What some people may not know, is that Holy Family University has their very own chapter! Our HFU chapter hosts several fundraising events throughout the year in order to pay for their annual trip to help build these affordable housing units. Every year they travel somewhere different to help the organization grow and reach as many people as possible.
I had the pleasure of joining them for their annual fundraising walkathon where they have supporters pledge a certain dollar amount per lap in order to fund their trip. This event takes place on HFU’s Tiger Field Track. Many of their members attended this event and had a great time walking (and running) to support their cause. We were very motivated by a great soundtrack and an amazing group of people! It was so much fun to see so many people come together to help make our community a better place.
The walkathon is not their largest fundraising event, but it certainly helps chip away at costly trip bills. Each participant is hoping to raise at least $100 with this event. They also have their annual pound cake sale coming up in December from Stock’s Bakery. If you know any HFU chapter members, reach out about ordering for the holidays to show your support!
In order to be eligible for their annual trip in the spring, each member is required to complete two ReStore trips where they go to a Habitat for Humanity ReStore location and volunteer for the day. These trips allow for small groups to go and make a difference in their own community before traveling to help communities across the country.
In February, HFU Habitat for Humanity will host their annual Habitat Bingo event which is their largest and most popular fundraiser of the year. Speaking with their current chapter president, Andrew McShea, they expect upwards of 300 people to attend this event. Members of the chapter make prize baskets and it is always a lot of fun for the members and attendees. This event will take place on February 22nd, 2025 so be sure to keep an eye out on socials for any updates or how to attend.
This HFU club loves to get out there and truly make a difference within their community and communities across the country. To keep up with their events, you can follow them on Instagram @hfuhabitatforhumanity
