This semester at HFU, Writers’ Bloc has collaborated with Tri-Lite, the university’s student-run newspaper, to share ideas through joint creative endeavors. Founded in 2024, Writers’ Bloc was established as a club to provide students with a creative outlet to express their ideas. Through discussion, these ideas are then further developed through writing and other forms of creative media.
So far this Fall, Writers’ Bloc and Tri-Lite have been meeting biweekly, engaging in fun activities, and discussing forms of writing that interest them. These ideas are then further developed into drafted articles or narratives.

The first meeting of the year was held earlier last month; this meeting focused on informing interested students of who we are, what we do, and how to join. After establishing leadership positions, it was also introduced to students that there were positions available for those who were not interested in leadership but rather in writing articles or submitting content.

In addition to sharing writing positions, students were also introduced to the current running podcast produced by two of the Writers’ Bloc and Tri-Lite board members. The Campfire is an additional form of creative media featured with Tri-Lite, founded by Ava Folcarelli and Taurean Jewett, encompassing all forms of literature, from prose to poetry. In these episodes, conducted either together or individually, Ava and Rue discuss various aspects of writing, further analyzing their own works or those of others.

Most recently, students of Writers’ Bloc and Tri-Lite came together to make a creative writing piece through abstract art. This activity combined art with writing, resulting in an abstract work both visually and literally. Students were instructed to choose a few words at random and then arrange them in a way that made the most sense. After this, the students finalized their work by gluing the phrases onto a colored piece of paper, resulting in a poem/short story.

Once finished, the students hung their work on the faculty advisor, Dr. Fic’s, office door, leaving him a creatively written surprise.
