Holy Family University held its first homecoming celebration on Saturday, September 30, 2017 outside Stevenson Lane Residence. The afternoon featured men’s and women’s soccer matches, student clubs, a food truck festival, an alumni beer garden, and mass offered by Fr. James MacNew and Fr. Al Smith.
For a September afternoon, the weather made for a perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy everything the event offered. The air was filled with the cheers of spectators from the game, joyous chatter among the alumni, and the variety of pleasant smells from the food trucks.
“Around 150 alumni came and I was thrilled with the turn out and all who came,” said Julie Rempfer, Assistant Director for Alumni and Parent Relations. “There were probably more alumni than current students at Homecoming. Soccer alumni came as well to see the teams play.”
Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams played Concordia College, with both teams securing wins. The men’s team won 4-3 in double overtime. The women’s team won 5-1.
Many student clubs had fun games to play with prizes to be won. There were also large inflatables and a dunk tank for everyone to enjoy.
“There was something for everyone to do,” Rempfer said. “The carnival games ran out of prizes because so many children played.”
