Great Day to Be a Tiger: A Taste of Philadelphia

By Jessica Bruzzese and James M. Ross

On Monday, February 11, the Campus Center Gymnasium erupted in celebration in honor of Holy Family’s 65th birthday. The occasion evoked an atmosphere of conversation, which was intermixed with curious appetites.

A crowd of students, faculty, and staff along with their families gathered for the sampling of foods catered by Holy Family’s Dining Services. From Italian Hoagies to Cheesesteaks, these foods featured some of Philadelphia’s most popular dishes.

Franco Gonzalez, a student from Chili and a senior education major, enjoyed the friendly atmosphere in the gym.

“I actually enjoyed seeing people that I do not get to see normally, like the different teachers, staff, and students,” Gonzales said. “I liked the cheesesteaks that they were giving out here.”

Along with a culinary sampling, students were given the opportunity to enter a raffle with the chance to win up to five prizes. Among these items were an HFU Athletics Gear Basket, a Nintendo Switch, and a chance to win your own VIP Parking Spot for a year.

A group of students and staff helped coordinate the contest as well as provided students with free Great Day to be a Tiger t-shirts. According to Shamika Ford, a Residence Coordinator at Holy Family, the Nintendo Switch and VIP parking spot were the most popular prizes.

“A senior had commented that winning the parking spot would be a great way to finish out the semester,” Ford said.
